Acorn Under-Fives

About Acorn Under-Fives...

Acorn Under Fives was founded in 1986 by a group of parents in response to the lack of pre-school provision at that time.  Today it remains a community pre-school run by a committee of volunteers under the umbrella of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

The Pre-school Learning Alliance is an educational charity which represents and supports 16000 community pre-schools in England .  The aim of the Pre-school Learning Alliance is to help children to succeed, create the childcare which families need and build learning communities.  Its 400 branches are made up of representatives from member pre-schools.

Acorn Under-Fives is situated within the grounds of Oaklands Infant School. It is however a separate establishment with no formal links to the school.  Acorn participates in school life with active involvement in the Christmas and Summer Fetes run by the schools PTA.

Acorn is housed in a purpose built building which was opened in September 2003. It has a fully enclosed playground with a wide variety of outside play equipment
